<p><h3>Overview</h3><p><b>Join to apply for the Senior Transmission Line Engineer</b> role at <b>Stantec</b>.</p><p>Our transmission line engineering group has an opportunity for a Senior Transmission Line Engineer based out of British Columbia. This opportunity is available to Professional Engineers with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the transmission line industry. You will work on several power line projects with a team of talented transmission line designers, engineers, and subject matter experts in a dynamic, vibrant, and collaborative team environment.</p><h3>Your Opportunity</h3><p>This role is based in British Columbia and involves leading engineering and design services for power transmission line projects from conceptual design through construction.</p><h3>Your Key Responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Engineering and design services of power transmission line projects from conceptual design through construction.</li><li>Act as lead project engineer for transmission line projects, coordinating technical discussions with internal and external teams, interfacing with project managers and clients.</li><li>Act as lead design engineer for projects and perform route alignment and line layout studies.</li><li>Prepare engineering and design deliverables including conceptual design, criteria, line layouts, structural configuration, loading analysis, structure design, conductor and overhead ground wire analysis, and material selection.</li><li>Utilize PLS-CADD regularly for transmission line modeling, profiling, tower spotting, design calculations and checks, reports and drawings (plan & profile, structure data sheets, bill of materials, stringing charts).</li><li>Model, analyze, design and optimize new or existing transmission structures using PLS-TOWER, PLS-POLE and other FE modeling programs.</li><li>Serve as peer and independent reviewer for design and engineering work delivered by other team members.</li><li>Supervise a team of transmission line engineers and designers including technical mentorship and coaching.</li><li>Prepare technical reports, project scope, specifications and line construction documents including Issued for Tender (IFT) and Issued for Construction (IFC) packages.</li><li>Provide material quantity estimates for transmission lines.</li><li>Provide engineering and technical support to field crews during construction, including site supervision.</li><li>Participate in site visits and field reviews as needed.</li><li>Engage in discussions with clients and contractors and coordinate with various disciplines to achieve successful project implementation.</li></ul><h3>Your Capabilities and Credentials</h3><ul><li>Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER.</li><li>Knowledge of international and North American transmission line industry standards and guidelines such as IEC, IEEE, ASCE, Cigre, CSA and NESC.</li><li>Knowledge of Canadian utility standards and design practices.</li><li>Experience with route selection and studies for overhead transmission lines.</li><li>Experience developing design drawings for a variety of transmission structure types.</li><li>Knowledge of transmission line materials (structures, conductor, OPGW, insulators, hardware accessories and fittings).</li><li>Understanding of project management systems.</li><li>Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and in teams.</li><li>Strong time-management and multi-tasking abilities.</li><li>Strong communication skills to proactively convey project issues with the project team and clients.</li><li>Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks with flexibility in assignments.</li><li>Additional capabilities beneficial for the role include:</li><li>Experience designing foundations for various transmission structure types and geotechnical requirements.</li><li>Ability to perform line electrical studies (RI, EMF), interconnection and load flow studies, short circuit analysis, insulation coordination and lightning performance and grounding studies for transmission lines.</li><li>Experience designing HV underground and submarine cables.</li><li>Experience with line condition assessments.</li></ul><h3>Education and Experience</h3><ul><li>Structural, Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree from a recognized university.</li><li>Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with the Canadian Engineering Association in the province of practice.</li><li>Minimum 10 years of transmission line design and engineering experience within utilities, EPC, or consulting organizations.</li><li>Minimum of 5 years of transmission line engineering practice after registration as P.Eng.</li></ul><p>Typical office environment with a hybrid model of working in the office and at home.
